About Bob

Bob Neill was born on 24th June 1952 and educated at Abbs Cross Grammar School, Hornchurch. He went on to study Law at the London School of Economics which led to a successful career as a barrister specialising in criminal law.

Bob Neill was elected as MP for Bromley & Chislehurst in June 2006. This followed the sudden death of The Rt Hon Eric Forth. Following his election to parliament he was appointed to the Justice Select Committee, which scrutinises the work of the new Ministry of Justice, the Courts and legal system, the work of the government law officers as well as devolution issues.

After only a year in Parliament Bob was appointed Shadow London Minister, joining the Shadow Communities & Local Government team. In 2008 he was made Shadow Local Government Minister and Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party and in January 2009, Bob also took over the shadow planning brief.

On 14 May 2010 Bob Neill MP was appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Department of Communities and Local Government. In this role, he has responsibilities for the Fire Service, Thames Gateway, the Olympics, local government and planning.

Bob has represented communities around London for nearly thirty years. Prior to the creation of the Greater London Authority, he served on the former GLC, representing Romford. Bob also served as a Councillor in the London Borough of Havering for 16 years, chairing the Environment and Social Services Committees.

Before entering Parliament Bob was London Assembly Member for Bexley and Bromley where he served as Leader of the Greater London Authority's Conservative Group until June 2006.

As the Member of Parliament for Bromley & Chislehurst Bob believes that it is vitally important to voice local people's concerns at Westminster and has consistently raised issues surrounding overdevelopment and planning policy, the pressure of council tax, the quality and cost of rail services into Central London and the standard of public services across the borough.

In the constituency Bob is heavily involved in campaigns to save local Post Offices and protect the greenbelt from overdevelopment.

As a resident of Chislehurst, Bob is closely involved with a number of local organisations and regularly meets with numerous residents and community groups, voluntary organisations and emergency services to hear their views and campaign of their behalf.
